When you keep working, you feel good. But just because you feel important, it does not mean every time keep working is good for you. You can break the cycle of long working hours at the office. Working all the time is not healthy at all and you can reset your manager’s and co-worker’s expectations positively. When you are engaged in your work and challenged by your work continuously, you keep learning new things, get many opportunities, rewards and recognitions and followed by your career what you dreamt of. But experts say, taking a few vacations, working long hours, integrating your work life but not balancing your personal life is dangerous in terms of your health, your productivity and relationships.

We live in a culture where your work is demanding, the boss is demanding, life is demanding and demeaning, you need to help yourself to overcome your work addiction. Develop your skill in such a way, you complete your work without spoiling your health, career, and mental peace.

Swedish fintech company Doconomy’s ‘DO Black’ credit card, developed in partnership with Mastercard, is linked to an app that enables consumers to track and measure their carbon footprint from each purchase and allows them to put limits on the climate impact of their spending.

  • No superhuman expectations-Redefine success

    Try to define success again as per your overall parameters like don’t forget your family life, spiritual health, physical health, mental peace, and work balance. In your goal achievement, you should consider your engagement in your community, your physical and emotional well-being and your relationship. As experts say, “your life should not keep revolving around your status, prestige, and paycheck. Live at the fullest where you enjoy it. You should not have expectations from yourself as a superhuman. Break this stereotype, draw a boundary and redefine success.

  • Refocus your attention

    Maintain a stress-free work-life balance. Find the right balance and that will prevent work addiction. You can meet the deadline when you don’t leave your office until the job is done but it will impact your next day routine as you will feel unfocused and overworked and in the end, you will not be able to concentrate. Blair-Loy suggests focus on one thing at a time — stop multitasking. “If you’re out with your spouse or watching a baseball game with your kid and you take a call from work or check email, you’re cheating them.” Next, you need to work on how you want to spend your time and energy. “Think about what matters,” Being a workaholic may help you become a successful person in business, but it can play mess with other aspects of your life.

  • Reset expectations

    Reset everybody’s expectations including your boss and colleagues about the changes you want to make and why are you making the changes. Explain to your boss about your interest which will bring in the best in their work schedule as well. Speak up and talk to your manager if you are finding it difficult to balance your time and see if they can prioritize your overwork.

  • Regular breaks

    New York Times says that taking regular breaks can help you to keep you focused and productive. A five-minute walk every hour away from your desk can help a lot to keep you energetic and focused. It can be as simple as heading to the cafeteria for a cup of coffee or tea.

  • Plan your weekends and evenings

    This plan will give you some “ME” time and fun to look forward ahead of time. You will get an excuse to leave your office on time when you plan your evenings and you will feel refreshed by the end of the day. Planning and completing play an important role. Try to avoid cancelling your plans as this is beneficial for you.

  • Prioritize your health

    Take control of your use of electronic gadgets and try to prioritize your health. It could be hitting a gym, joining aerobics or yoga or traveling or sleeping. It completely depends on how you take your passion and health on the right track.
